Huge thanks to
tarteaucitron for beta-ing at the speed of light something in a fandom she isn't in, and to [Bad username or unknown identity: My Sam]
for reading it at 3AM. :)
Disclaimer: Lie: an assertion of something known or believed by the speaker to be untrue with intent to deceive.
In the red lights of the pub, Ray watches him, trying not to be too obvious.
His skin is glowing in the red light with a sickly, pinkish hue, but still Ray can’t keep his eyes off him – sometimes he feels a stupid pride in thinking that he’s the only one who can understand how beautiful Frank really is, even when he’s tired and drunk, and in dire need of a shower.
With open eyes, Ray can perfectly remember the way that same skin looked like against his, bathed by a different light, milky and subtle, coming in from the window.
“Do you think they can see us outside?”
“I don’t think so, the lights are off. I don’t care, anyway. They’d only be jealous of me.”
How beautifully disbelieving his smile had looked at that moment; and for a second Ray had hoped that maybe he’d be able to make him see the truth, make him look at himself through his, Ray’s, eyes, and finally understand that that was how it was meant to be.
As it turned out, it didn’t work.
Ray catches his eyes for a fleeting moment, smiling and affectionate and nothing else, before he sees Frank reach for his ringing telephone, a completely different smile lighting up his features as he looks for a more quiet spot, covering his other ear to shield it from the loud music.
Frank turns to look at him before moving away, his eyebrows raising in a mute, concerned question; Ray smiles and nods in what he hopes is a convincing way, quickly hiding himself behind his beer bottle.
As Frank walks into the toilets, the only quiet place in the pub, Ray closes his eyes and tries to recall the scent of Frank that had lingered on his bed sheets for days.

Date: 2005-11-23 09:24 am (UTC)Now, that's an image that the Ray in my head likes a huge lot. :)
I might have been a bit cruel with him here, but at least *looks up at comments* I've earned Ray some good cuddling!
